FWIW most R-rated sites just put up a content warning page. Membership to a site is typically not used as a "mature content" filter - although I do see how it helps or enables purchases on your site.

The logging in every time will get a bit inconvenient pretty quick, just to see updates. I'm just comparing, but there quite a few sites out there, if not practically all of them (rated PG, R, X etc) that don't need these steps. Your content has always been awesome, and I know this took a lot of time and work ~ but I don't see this model as sustainable, or why you had to change from your previous format, which I thought worked fine over the years. Just my 2¢.
