I'm not sure that they are very concerned. I mean probably a little by the sanctions which made the Russian Rubel lose much of it's value, but by the dude himself? He has a very high approval rating... |

I look at the pics and the main difference between the spontaneous local party goers and the "wetlookers" is the age. They seem to be older (well, to be frank really old to go to a public party or club, you rarely see such people) and mostly men. As some of the pool parties are not even 18+ but 16+ or with no age limit (some very young girls during Mainflingen) such strange old dudes are associated with pedophilia etc in the minds of these people. So it seems the German wetlook community killed candid wetlook from their country for the world, by wanting it all :D. Well, thank god for Russia, this seems to be the new wetlook mecca. However isn't the same thing happening in Russia? The water war craze seems to be fading, more and more public wetlook albums display "access denied" for not registered or even not invited to the event members. And once again the number of older men with cameras on these flash mobs starts to be visible in the photos... |

By X_Wet_X - Fri 19/12/14 00:26:50 GMT Aside from the issues already mentioned such as more expensive phones, changes in youth culture, ... there is one thing, which I have read in the comment section of several photo galleries of such events during the past years: the locals call these pool party "freak shows" and other things. The German wetlook community is well organised and they meet at Borgentreich, where the growing number of total strangers getting wet in a small town pool party confused and frightens people. So to avoid to get associated with them, the locals avoid getting wet. The only other big pool party in Germany is Mainflingen, which takes place near Frankfurt (a huge city), so this effect is not so strong there. Although I have already read in one of the announcements of it a few years back, that the organisers of Mainflingen intentionally flood the lake with a layer of smoke from time to time during the party, to keep off the voyeurs. It is a strange thought, but the wetlook community seems to hurt itself by actually doing public wetlook. Another thing about Borgentreich, that I have read recently is, that the pool party was quite unlucky with the weather conditions. It was always rather cold during the last years at the time of the party, which also kept people from entering the (heated) pool, because it would be uncomfortable after they get out again. |

Legendary parties such as Rotweil, Freiburg, Alcatraz, Natrix/Catwalk/Xcess and many more. Each year I was there after the first couple of years it seemed there were fewer and fewer parties. I believe Rotweil was the first to stop, Freiburg lasted a little longer, the pool at Alcatraz had problems, etc. Borgentreich is the last of the great parties and I wonder when it will be gone. Maybe not for a while because the village is very small and they get a lot of money from that party so they will have it as long as people keep coming. I believe it is like any other fad, young people have limited attention spans, what was once cool lasts until the next great thing comes along. The pool/foam party thing went away because it was no longer the "in" thing. Remember, wetlook fans are not so large in number and as much as we wish these parties will continue, we can't support them ourselves, and these parties were never meant for our interest. That is my opinion. I am just glad I was there to enjoy it while it was good. |

By Phoenix_Mike - Thu 18/12/14 21:42:49 GMT During the phenomenon (most of it) cell phones did exist, but they were the regular much cheaper type and people weren't so attached to them and didn't take them everywhere. Now everyone takes a smartphone, worth a couple hundred euro and nobody wants to leave them at some check in counter before a party. Even in the fountains in the summer or at private parties you see the throw-in-gone-wrong wet phone problem from time to time. Maybe if more and more brands become truly waterproof pool parties will be able to come back without the possibility of such losses and people will like them again.. |
