Yeah....the GoPro is a great little waterproof HD camera for the folks who are lucky to be living in 2013.....cos when I first started shooting wetlook videos in the early 90's there was no such thing a cheap cameras and video gear, and everything in those days was very bulky and expensive. I remember when I bought my first video camera in 1979 and took it to Disneyland to film some stuff with my family....and in those days the camera was connected by a long cable to a separte VTR video recorder box that was bulky and I had to wheel it around on a luggage trolly cos the camera and vtr box weighed over 50 pounds.....so it is amazing today that folks can walk around Songkran in Thailand with a small pocket HD camera now.
Back in the 1990s when we shot most of our old SSS video series we used to used a Steadicam a lot for some of the running scenes we did with the girls on several videos....e.g. our version of It's a Knockout wet and messy games....and the results looked nice.....but the Steadicam we had cost 7 grand and it took a LOT of setting up before you could use it....cos you can't just attach the camera and harness and you are ready to shoot.....no...it it is real pain in the butt to balance things before you can use it....cos before each shoot you need to dick around for a long time to balance all the counterweights on the gyro mechanism first. So....a steadicam is expensive and reallty fiddly to balance all the weights before you can use it....whereas the Go Pro on a Pole Stick can achieve similar results and it is cheap and you just strap it to your pole stick and you are ready to go.
FYI....we bought 2 GoPros and the 3D video mount where you strap the 2 cameras together and can shoot in 3D....and we shot a few test videos in 3D a couple of years ago....but did not release the footage mainly because the software that comes with the camera is pretty crappy at rendering and editing in 3D and we did not like the results......i.e. the Go Pro is great for shooting in 2D HD....but you cannot shoot decent 3D videos with a GoPro cos the 3D rendering and editing software is not up to par with what James Cameron does with his Hollywood 3D films.....so forget about shooting in 3D....it does not work well with 2 Go Pros strapped together.

By Dunk Tank Dave - dunktankdave@tiscali.co.uk Tue 30/07/13 12:08:30 GMT Website: http://vidown.com/cgi/store2.pl?site=dunktankdownload.com/ www.dunktankdownload.com The gopro on a pole or even on a harness is ideal for this type of shoot. I've looked at the budget steady cams for a while but when I tried one I found it was more of a hinderance. I shot over 10 hours of material over in Thailand during their songkran water festival earlier in the year and found the gopro absolutely perfect. Small enough to get in with the action yet the quality is fantastic. The beuty of its size and camera angle is you can be a part of the water fight throwing buckets of water whilst still holding the camera so you get a really good POV style shoot. Yes, I do still want a steadycam but not entirely sure its needed, |

By MK - wamtec@comcast.net Mon 29/07/13 21:29:58 GMT I can see by the shadows created by the camera guy in that clip.....that he was indeed using a professional steadicam with special gyro harness. Those are the kinds of harness cameras you see at football games and other sporting events.....and they cost a small fortune to buy....cos a steadicam harness system will set you back anywhere from 10 grand to 30 grand....depending on what options you have. Here is a cheap way you can achieve similar results for under $300....including the cost for the camera. You can get a GoPro Hero HD camera for around $250....and then attach it to a pole mounted stick for less than $50....see here
http://www.amazon.com/GoScope-GoPro%C2%AE-Telescoping-Monopod-Expands/dp/B00A686INO
For those of you who are good in a workshop....you can make your own pole mount stick using PVC pipe from Home Depoit and make youir own stick mount for your camera for under $10.....this is what the sufers and skateboarders do when they want to film their antics.
Save your money and don't buy a steadicam.....those are for the very rich pro Trash the Dress cameramen who like to bore you to death with their pedantic shots.......you can get a much more interesting experience by using a GoPro on a stick mount....
