FYI it was reported on several tv news outlets today about Improv Everywhere's latest "nuisance stunt"...i.e. setting off loads of car alams in a public parking lot and causing a major disturbance....

and how some taxpayer watchdog groups were questiioning why taxpayer monies from NEA funded Guggenheim were being used as a funding source for this car alarm stunt......

Granted....Improv Everywhere and Guggenheim may only be getting partial funding from NEA and they may have their own fund raising sources too....but taxpayer watchdog groups are still wondering why any monies at all are going to groups who are committing a public nuisance.

Many Improv Everywhere videos are all over Youtube and get lots of hits....and note that all their videos require you to sit thru Ads,...so they are making money off their Youtube videos.....so basically if they make money off their Youtube videos, they should not need to be supported by any grants from foundations or taxpayer dollars.

The overwhelming majority of the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation's operating expenses are generated from investment income. I couldn't find any info on Improv Anywhere on guidestar.org (morningstar for non-profits), but it's possible they file with the IRS under another name.

I don't know what your source is, but I'm using their actual financials. Now, there are several Guggenheim Foundations, with each having a different first name and I'll be honest that I don't have the time to comb through all their 990's. If someone else who knows what they're looking at wants to dig, have at it. It's entirely possible that one of the other foundations is publicly funded and that's the one funding Improv Everywhere, but the John Simon is the main one.

I just thought it was worth pointing out that US taxpayer funding this may not be entirely true and thus not worth getting a bunch of people all riled up about something that may very well be more lore than fact.

Hey ....it seems that us wetlook producers have been missing out on a great boondoggle....i.e. how to get a government grant and get the American tax payers to finance your wetlook events.

I just found out something interesting.....you know that Improv Everywhere company that do the "Black Tie Beach" wetlook formal swimming events each year....i.e. here is last year's event....

Nice event.....but guess what...it turns out that Improv Everywhere is funded by the Guggenheim Foundation...which is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts....which is funded by guess who....i.e. the U.S. taxpayer.

As much as I like wetlook events, I do not see why us tax payers have to give grants to companies to create wetlook events.....and when our country is in so much debt and trouble right now, I think funding people who want to do silly things should be up to those people who want to do such things by themselves....and not to force the taxpayers to pay them to create staged events.

I guess I should apply for a government grant then....to test the effects of water on clothing.
