Whether valid or not, here are some reasons I could imagine:
o It does the job of covering up (these women are probably self-conscious about their shape) o T-shirts are cheap - almost disposable - and easy to look after. White is probably the cheapest. o Many pool rules forbid clothing other than bathing suits. This makes a t-shirt the most a person could add to a bathing suit without being hassled by pool staff. o White won't fade from chlorine o White shows dirt/stains so when you see white you know it's clean.
We all know that some of the above are probably a bit lame, but I'm sure any of these women would probably cite one or more of the reasons on the above list.
