Haha! ;-) Well, it was a loose translation from my native French language, and I new that I might not have hit the most adequate of terms, but the idea is there: while we users might visit this forum five times daily as a matter of compulsion, a good moderator has to come to it at least as often and be prepared to deal with quickly evolving situations.. |
In reply to Message (46247.1.1) Very well put - but I had to look up "assidous" (cont'd)
By Silas - Wed 29/09/10 09:33:35 GMT WORD OF THE DAY: Assiduous: constant in application or effort; working diligently at a task; persevering; industrious; attentive Use it at work and impress your boss! PS I'm not being a smartass - I really didn't know the meaning of the word. (ok, I'm kindof being a smartass) |
In reply to Message (46247.1) My gratitude to forum leaders.
By WetMusic - Wed 29/09/10 08:57:36 GMT This brings an interesting point forth. Yes, there must be a reason for which so many forums -- of all kinds and interests -- falter eventually. I can imagine that moderating this must be an imposition on assiduity. Someone sacrifices the "hobbiness" of his hobby for the sake of all of us.
I follow two forums on a daily basis: this one, and another one covering a historical topic for which I have a scholarly passion. While this other one is a much more elaborate affair -- with news articles and essays on top of the forum -- I see it essentially being the same deal: one fellow has to be glued to his computer on a very assiduous basis or has to compromise on adequate delegation for hundreds and thousands to enjoy an assiduous enjoyment of the hobby.
The editor and moderator of this other forum has become a good and admired friend of mine. Through our personnal friendship, I have an inkling of what is required of him; and all the while, I have encouraged him to share with his readership his daily routine, an embedded blog like "The Editor's Journal", if you will. He has always declined lest anything should outshine the forum's subject matter... But this guy is good at this, and I know that one day a big paper or a magazine like Wired will do a piece on the man and his life as a Web community animator. His work, such as this very forum's editors, brings hundreds and thousands of man/hours of happiness and fulfillment to many people.
Kudos to you, people. A good friend of |

By Peter Sarle - Wed 29/09/10 07:54:52 GMT For the englishreader: Hi all! I wonder why no german is able to do a german wetlook forum. All forums were closed because they arent able to lead it. Is it so hard? Can someone build a new german forum?
Auf Deutsch: Kann keiner mal ein Forum aufmachen das nicht immer wieder verschwindet, gelöscht oder gehackt wird? Hat keiner spaß daran eins aufzubauen???
