Thanks for the reply. I know about the do-not-copy issues. As I understand it, the firewire port (if enabled), is supposed to provide a digital stream of whatever content is being output to the TV. So far as I can tell, the firewire port on the cable box is enabled.
I guess I may be ultimately faced with a "do-not-copy" barrier, but I haven't gotten that far yet. I won't know until/unless I can sort out the driver install problem... I would like to give it a try though.

By FountainFrolic - Fri 06/02/09 15:32:54 GMT Hi Anthony, I can't help you with your specific question, but do have some info you may want to be aware of. I have a TiVo Series 3 HD PVR, and with the TiVo its easy to hook to the PC, they actually have an app called "TiVo Desktop" which you simply install and be connected.
Here's the problem. At least here in the US, but I'm betting Canada is similar - the networks AND cable companies are paranoid about copying digital programs. All the PVR's are built to respect a set of flags which can be set to allow/disallow copying, transferring, streaming etc. Most everything except the networks available off-the-air here is flagged "Do Not Copy" which means even when you do get your PVR connected to your PC, you can see the listing of programs from the PC, but can't get them to copy or transfer to the PC. Very frustrating, so figured you'd want to be aware of that. |

By AnthonyX - anthonyx@jowc.net Fri 06/02/09 02:44:38 GMT This is a call for in-depth technical help so I can capture scenes from my digital cable box.
I have a digital PVR (rental from my cable company). It is a Motorola DCT6416 phase III. I found the following information: http://replayguide.sourceforge.net/dct6412/ which includes a download link for XP drivers to connect my PC and PVR via firewire. I got stuck on the driver installation - it failed to install the XP drivers properly - an issue with registry settings. I did the install from an administrator account (local admin on a system enabled for domain security).
I'm hoping to connect with someone who has some experience/expertise in this area to help me troubleshoot/resolve the problem. If you can help me, please write me at the address on this posting.
Thanks!
