Being in Tenby on Boxing day, I thought I'd go along with a couple of video cameras and Lisa to check it out again!

I have explained this to MK several times, its is not worth filming Tenby, nor Saundersfoot, its all to fast!  All the people there rush down to the water, jump in and run out again, the whole spectacle takes about 2 to three minutes!  You can't film anything!  900 people all going into the water in that short time, forget it!

They all go in at once, then its straight back up the beach to strip off or wear towels.  Not to mention the fact that there are loads of kids and men in drag all over the place!  Get a glimpse of something, aim the camera at it only to find out its a guy or a kid!

You'd be lucky if you got 5 seconds of video, let alone an hour!

Several years ago i went to the Sunderland Boxing day swim, now that was much better, the participants all go in a procession to the water, much easier to film, even the fire briggade hose them off on their way down.  That being said, even there you'd be lucky to catch half an hour of decent media with one camera!!!

You'd have to pay me a lot more than you're offering to try to get media from those events again!

You need at least two people to film Sunderland, two cameras and all this at a time of year when people are relaxing with family after Christmas!

It'd be chaeper for you to come to the UK, book yourself into a nice little hotel and film it yourself!  But don't forget to bring your waterproof housing, from what i remember i had a couple of close calls with idiots and almost ended up in the water myself!  Haha!

Guys....you are right...the new year swims and polar plunges held in the USA do suck...cos they are mostly bathing suits etc.

But bear in mind who the original poster is...he is a Scot...and in Scotland and England they have the best fancy dress Xmas and New Year swims in the world. So...if you are lucky enough to be in Scotland....you can see some great stuff by attending "The Loony Dook" event.

Just type in the keywords "Loony Dook" on Flickr and Youtube  and you will find lots of interesting pics and vids.

Just go to Flickr and type in keywords like "Boxing Day Swim" and you can find tons of stuff.

Likewise, if you like near Sunderland or Tenby in the UK...you can see some great wetlook swims too.

So...the facts are this.....the only decent charity swims for wetlook are those in the United Kingdom. Those that take place in North America...are pretty much bathing suit events at Xmas and New Year. The only semi decent North American wetlooks swims do NOT take place at Xmas or New Year.....those only start in Feb and March....when the 'Special Olympics" organization stage about 30 different events in several midwest states......so....there is nothing in North America to see at Xmas or New Year....but you can see some interesting events in Feb and March when the Special Olympics people stage theire events.....i.e. here are the planned 2009 events for Wisconsin cities

See all the galleries for last year

Bottom line......go to the UK for Xmas and New Year...and forget about any North American events at Xmas or New Year.

For North America.....head to the midwest states during Feb and March each year.

BTW....if anybody wants to know which event in the midwest will have the Hooters Girls going in for a swim in their uniforms, I will let you know the date and place if you promise to bring your camcorder and send me a copy of the footage....and the best thing about that event is....most of these events are not very good for capturing wetlook...cos the people dash in...and dash out....in less than a minute....and you don't have much chance to capture anybody...before they disappear and head for their cars. BUT....with this one event in Wisconsin...there is lots of extra time to get good shots, cos the local Hooters Restaurant also bring along THEIR OWN HOT TUB that they set up by the lake...so everybody goes into the hot tub to warm up afterwards.
