I tried googling "pond skimming" last year. Most led to a bunch of guys trying to cross water in a snowmobile - hardly an inspiring sight. Many years ago, when I was much younger, and when I skied, there used to be a great event at called "The Mt. Baker slush bowl.' It was well filmed at the time. I remember many good photos of girls in ski suits and jeans ending up in the water. I agree, now dudes in stupid costumes or in drag seem to have taken over...all over....too bad.

By bryce - brycepunk1@earthlink.net Sat 24/03/07 13:39:06 GMT Hey all. I was wondering if any of the winter wetlook fans that hang out around here will be able to make it to any of the pond skimming contests going on this time of year (That's when people snow ski down a hill and try to cross a pond of water.) I know there's a couple happening in the northeast US this weekend which, after getting excited to finally attend, I'll end up missing due to work. If you search around you may be able to find one, and there may actually be a few ladies who end up in the water in all their ski gear. I've seen a few on youtube (amid the hundreds of guys and people in stupid costumes.) Usually the photos are horribly back-lit or very far away, sadly. Which is why I was hoping to get there early tomorrow -- to finally get some decent photos of this once-a-year event. Anybody else planning on going?
