You couldnt have left the group as-was, and just stopped accepting donations for it. I donated some money (not much, but something) right when it came out because I know how good your work is but wasnt able to view the group over the last few weeks. I kinda wanted to save a few of the pictures as they ARE great and didnt think they would go away. :(
Oh well, I definately enjoyed it while it was available. Best of luck to you!!! |
In reply to Message (24246) Thank You!
By Stormy Waters - Tue 15/08/06 18:52:13 GMT A few weeks ago I announced an experiment for distributing my library of about 50,000 wetlook photos. On some level, that experiment was a success. I've had 400 members sign up to see my Flickr group, and there have been 50,000 views of that portfolio. For every view, it has cost members less than half a penny. Many of you have joined and been very complimentary in your comments. For that I thank you. It is very gratifying to do something that you truly enjoy and receive so many accolades for doing it.
Seventeen members (or about 4%) have donated to support the group, with an average donation of $14 each. I have added many more photos than promised based on the donations, so I hope all feel I have lived up to my end of the bargain. For those who have donated $20 or more, I feel some sense of obligation to give you access to more photos than posted to the group. Had others supported the group the way you did, you all would have had hundreds, or thousands more pictures to view. If you will email me at bigwave1989@yahoo.com with identification that allows me to verify your contribution, I will send you a full CD with approximately 350 of my favorite shots as thanks for your support.
But, with less than $250 donated, it just isn't worth the time of maintaining the group, and the donations do not defray even the cost of one photo shoot. Several professional wetlook producers had predicted this outcome, and frankly, I expected it, but I felt it important to try it anyway. And it was fun. But I must now kill the group.
I'll take an extended break from producing and posting my work--possibly permanently. It's remarkably time consuming and expensive. It will be fun to sit back and watch a new crop of producers emerge and marvel at those "old timers" who continue to provide us with great material year after year.
Regard to all,
Stormy Waters
