Only one of my invitees turned up: A nice girl in her late twenties. She arrived on a bike, wearing black lycra biking shorts, white bra, striped tanktop and teva's on bare feet. She didn't change before getting on the water.

We did some paddling and some talking. She turned out to be a nice girl and a much better paddler then she thought, so we finished the tour early and had some time left. I asked her if she ever practiced capsising, and if she was willing to try. She hadn't tried and was willing, so I went into my normal routine. In shallow water I left my boat and waded over to her, the water rising up to my waist. She looked a bit surprised at that, but not much. The water was so nice that I immediately lowered myself up to my neck in the water, then stood up again. Now she looked like she was longing to take the plunge herself.

She performed the capsise without a problem, twice. We played around a bit with the boat: Trying to get in from the water, paddle it while flooded and trying the capsise once more, with a sprayskirt. And then just some more paddling, dripping wet. We agreed on how refreshing the water was, and how nice it felt to stay sopping wet and cool. We sat on the shore for some time, having a drink and slowly drying in the sun, before we parted. She only changed into a dry shirt before taking her bike back home. I decided not to change at all, just keep on the damp stuff and drive home.

As much as I can enjoy looking at a soaked girl, during my instruction that pleasure is pushed back in a very small corner of my mind. I focus on my role as instructor. Afterwards I can dig up the memory and allow myself a smile, but not during.

I consider myself lucky that I managed to make this a normal way of spending wednesday evenings. Pure, innocent wet fun, in public, without hesitation or shame.

What more could a guy ask for? Easy. I would like a nice thunderstorm to go for a soaked and muddy walk in the woods. Well, according to the weatherforcast, that won't happen for some time... I might have to go paddling again this afternoon.
