I think it symbolizes death and rebirth. (death of the old, evil soul and rebirth as a brand new Christian soul.) Also Jesus was baptized in that manner, and all hardcore Christians like to emulate Jesus. The reason there is a debate over baptisms being shown in the wetlook communuity is that for many of the people getting dunked, this is a life-changing experience or at least a high point in their religious journey. So viewing a baptism as wetlook sort of trivializes it in some people's minds. However, once a couple of years ago a lady who is a Christian as well as a wetlook fan got baptized and posted pictures of her baptism service to the forum for everyone's enjoyment!
A lot of places do baptisms in sucky white or colored robes that make for very poor wetlook, but these dress-up-and-get-dunked ceremonies sure get my attention. I'd love to see the video of this event! |
In reply to Message (19905.8) A question about Baptism
By Norman - Sat 24/12/05 05:41:02 GMT Hi, can anyone explain, why they do this ritual? For me it seems like a large wetlook party (I know that it is not!). So does anyone know something about this? Thx.

By Dave S - Wed 21/12/05 07:39:21 GMT Dozens of women all dressed in regular clothes, getting baptized with before and after pics. Sweaters, jeans, etc with over 600 pics - this is the best baptism I've ever seen!
