Looked at a couple of the health links (including ''Recreational Water Illnesses'') and it's interesting that their ''"Healthy Swimming" behaviors'' page *doesn't* forbid wearing clothes in the pool as one of its rules :-)

As far as risks go I've only had two serious medical infections attributable to wamming:

(1) in 1995 I caught bronchitis for three weeks (including black fungus on the tongue) after playing in a river (name and location withheld) early in the year; cured by antibiotics;

(2) in 2004 I caught severe gastritis for two weeks (faintness, vertigo, hypersensitivity, persistent vomiting and bum bleeding) after playing at a theme park (name and location withheld); cured by drugs and herbal remedies.

Most other sports are *far* more risky! (e.g. cycling, running, cricket, hacking, abducting little furry aliens from Mars, etc...)

Yay okay too much detail -- ''sorry folks'' :-|

SW, FW, and BH :-)

I love to go swimming during the winter. I live close to San Francisco and typically go to the closeby reservoirs rather than the ocean (which is much colder). I noticed that when the official swim area get opened towards summer time, the state always performs water quality checks and frequently delays openings due to water quality concerns. I heard that water run-offs into the reservoirs during the rainy season decrease the water quality. Now when I go swimming all bundled up in winter clothes I typically do that outside of the official swim areas, which means that often cattle is peeing and pooing close by. And in rerservoirs there is little to no flowing water.

Should I be concerned about health issues? Any feedback is higly appreciated!

Thanks,

Mark
