In my opinion the way of writing the dates suggested by Anthony (2-Nov-2005) is the best. If someone writes Nov-2-2005 it won't lead to a confusion. The language is not a problem because the names of the months sound similar in all European languages and the letters of the Latin alphabet can be understood by all Europeans. Even by those who have other alphabets and don't know any foreign languages. For example in Russia we use Cyrillic and not everyone can speak a foreing language (most of people can't), but absolutely everybody knows the letters of the Latin alphabet.
