In jobs having something to do with book printing or graphics etc. it´s an old medieval custom in Germany to do that with aprentices after their successful final examination. After this procedure they receive a certificate and have to give free drinks for all. That is called Gautschfest. Originally gautschen is a technical term describing a process in paper production.
