Actually....you should thank veteran producer Wetfan for that scene...because he was the one who kindly loaned me all the prom dresses we used in that scene....and was kind enough to let me use them.
Only slight problem......the dye in red dresses started to "bleed" in the pool...and so did the blue dresses....so the dresses started out being bright pink and red and blue...and by the end of the shoot all the girls dresses had turned to pale blue and red ...ha ha.
One more comment in relation to the Sharon Tate "12 Chairs" clip....as it relates to today's technology. I recently bought 3 DVRs and TIVOs....and while the recording quality is superb when you use a TIVO or DVR connected to satellite or digital cable.....DVRs and TIVOs and digital players in general have one major flaw that I hate....i.e. you cannot "scan" properly when you record on digital video hard drive or record to dvd. Whenever you try to do a high speed "scan"...digital video cannot scan....it "skips" and just jumps from one segment to the next....i.e. in high speed scan mode...a DVR or TIVO is skipping at 4-5 second intervals.....and how does this affect poor Sharon Tate....she gets "lost" on digital scanning devices....cos her wet scene lasts for only 3 seconds...and a DVR will skip by that so fast and skip that scene entire....so you will never catch that scene or any scenes that are "fleeting" (i.e. music video wet scenes) if you use a DVR or TIVO. You are likely to miss things...if you use high speed scanning on a DVR.....so old analog VHS vcrs are still the best devices to scan things aty high speed....cos with a vcr in scan mode....you are seeing every INCH of tape...and not skipping past things.
So....DVRs are nice for some things....but I don't like using them when I am scanning hours of footage to hunt for wet scenes...cos you will never catch wet scenes in adverts or music videos using a DVR....it is still better to scan footage using a tape device like a VCR.

In reply to Message (20252.1.1) Best formal wetlook
By RM - Wed 11/01/06 20:07:44 GMT I suppose I've seen a fair amount of formal wetlook from Hollywood but by far the best formal wetlook of any kind is Wamtec's raw footage tape of the Beauty Pagent in the pool from the early to mid 90's. The girls were fully decked out in gowns, hose, heels and even a couple in elbow gloves. They were fully dry to start (not even damp hair) and waded into the pool, dunked and swam around. And they stayed dressed throughout the shoot. They even climbed out of the pool with still wearing everything while they waited for the next scene. That was wetlook at it's best. |

By MK - wamtec@compuserve.com Wed 11/01/06 12:36:38 GMT Gee....any list we try to do....will be hard for anybody to universally agree upon.
We would need to have categories....just like the oscars...i.e. best jeans scene, best dress scene, etc etc
The Sharon Tate scene is from 1969....not 2006....and the actual wetlook in that scene is about 2.5 seconds...as she runs out of the pool and past the cameraman....so I would classify that clip in the category of "best wetlook scene under 3 seconds for 1969"...ha ha
Most mainstream critics can agree upon the top 10 best movies of all time....e.g. Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Schindler's List, Shawshank Redemption etc.....but I doubt we can get a concensus on this forum as to what is a great wetlook scene. Take for example, the recent movie CONSTANTINE wet scene....the casual wetlook and jeans and pants folks are raving about that scene....but for a formal wetlook or dresses and skirts fan, that scene is not rated highly at all.
Good luck with your poll....it might be a fun exercise.

In reply to Message (20252) wetlook scenes
By Zebra - Wed 11/01/06 07:56:58 GMT Are we ready to do a 2006 top ten of the best wetlook scenes in mainstream films. My numero uno is still the late great much lamented Sharon Tate in 'The 12 chairs' - what a gorgeous, gorgeous woman who got wet in her clothes a few times for us especially in the Dean Martin film 'Wrecking Crew'
