It boots much much faster than my old XP Compaq did. It boots faster than my laptop. I have read online that this computer is basically a stationary laptop ie. a laptopotherboard in a desktop case. I only paid $248 for it, so it probably is a low end machine, but today's low end is much better than yesterday's state of the art. |

By Malvineous - mrnemesis@ntlworld.com Fri 05/12/14 22:39:11 GMT Who'd a thunk it, eh?
Hopefully when Windows 10 comes out (that should be 9 but isn't) they'll fix the horribly slow Start screen search introduced with 8.1.
I never thought MS would actually put back the Start menu, either … |
In reply to Message (63006) OT: I got a new computer and a new tv
By Desert Hawk - Fri 05/12/14 09:04:34 GMT I bought a new Acer desktop computer with Windows 8.1, 1080p HDMI video, 4 gigs RAM and a 500 gig hard drive. I had been using my old 2006 Compaq with Windows XP, VGA 480p video, 256 megs RAM and 80 gigs hard drive. The old computer had gotten so slow that it couldn't play a youtube video without stuttering. High speed internet was wasted on that old relic. I have been mainly using my laptop for the last year. Now I have a good desktop that plays videos properly and displays 1080p full HD videos and still pictures. I am using a 24 inch 1080p tv as the monitor. My laptop's display is only 720p, so wetlook and everything else looks better than ever.
I also bought a 46 inch 1080p tv for my living room. The previous tv was a 32 inch 720p. I'm moving up in the technology world!
