America "the world's policemen"?
The USA has its own agenda, as does every other country. If it were not dependent on foreign oil, I doubt it would be doing all that much on the international stage.
The US involvement in WW1, WW2, and Korea was not serving its own interest. In Europe, it came to the aid of countries in need as an ally against an aggressor nation. In the Pacific theater of WW2, the US was the injured party and acted in response to a declaration of war by Japan. The use of nuclear bombs was a measure of last resort to break the resolve of a nation prepared to fight "to the last man" to achieve its own imperialist objectives. Despite the immense cost in life, it ultimately prevented an even greater loss of life on both sides by bringing the war to a quick end. In Korea, the US as well as other nations were acting under the aegis of the UN.
For quite some time now, Canada has had the largest role of any foreign power in Afghanistan - and we have the casualty numbers to prove it. It's only recently that the baton has been passed back to the US.
You make it sound like the US wants to be the next world empire. Admittedly, it does look that way from time to time, but for the most part, I believe they are only: 1. Protecting their own sovereignty, security and trade interests. 2. Coming to the aid of friendly nations in response to rogue aggressors.
The problem is that their actions sometimes leads to a slippery slope towards imperialism.
Anyway... I don't see what all this foreign policy stuff has to do with the domestic issue of gun violence and gun control.

By andy - andrewbenstead@live.co.uk Sat 08/01/11 18:29:27 GMT whats this shooting got to do with wetlook , but seeing that there are some replys i will add my oppinion , typical gun crazed yanks and lets not forget they are trying to be the worlds policemen and as ever have failed ww1, ww2 ,korea ,cambodia ,vietnam, iraq 1 ,and iraq 2,afghanistan, the romans , then the british whom i may add had the biggest longest and most succsesful empire the world has ever seen , the germans tried and failed , so how the hell can we trust a nation ful of gun carriers and not forgetting they dropped the only two atomic bombs in history and defend their act of a holocaust , and react with aggression when countrys devolp nuclear technology eg , the soviet union , and in more recent years china , korea pakistan and now iran , and if the iranians do devolp a nuclear weapon what is the yanks answer . hey man lets invade and nuke em |
