Canada basically went on high alert for kiddie porn, and I believe that is the reason why customs opens packages and views tapes, no matter what the source country. If your customers are no longer complaining about it, I can think of two possible reasons:
1. It's still happening even though your customers aren't complaining 2. They've come to know your product line and have realized they don't need to waste time screening tapes coming from you.

By Nigel - nigel@wetlook.com Sun 04/12/05 05:37:19 GMT Website: www.wetlook.com Yes, it was quite common that the Canadian Customs viewed VHS tapes, they didn't bother re-winding them, so my customers could tell. Even tapes from US producers were getting played ! Obviously with DVDs you can't tell if they've been watch, but there's not much point opening a DVD parcel unless you are going to watch it, you can see everything else on x-ray !
Appart from this stupid return, none of my Canadian customers have complained about parcels being opened for some time now, so maybe they are getting better ! ?

PS Canadian customers take heart: none of our videos have ever been confiscated, so it's perfectly safe to order, you might just get a few days of delay !

By AnthonyX - anthonyx@jowc.net Sat 03/12/05 22:13:07 GMT too right!
I'm no longer sure which it was, but one of the videos I purchased a few years ago WAS opened and partially viewed. As best I can recall, it really wouldn't have come anywhere close to the Canadian definition of obscenity or pornography. Unless the "agent" was one of us, I'm sure he/she would have been pretty disappointed. Nevertheless, I think that all in the name of security and public protection, our customes/postal service don't have much respect for personal privacy.

By Nigel - nigel@wetlook.com Sat 03/12/05 10:50:46 GMT Website: www.wetlook.com The Canadian Postal Service/Customs has always been problematic, as most wetlook producers know ! As far as I know, it's the ONLY country that insists that the return address for parcels is on the front of the package, rather than the back.
This was already a pain in the arse, but NOW I have had a DVD "REFUSED ENTRY" because my return label has "No Sender name in French or English"...
To not hint at the contents, my return labels are always just:
PO Box 3430 COLCHESTER CO4 0ZU ENGLAND
But now, for Canadian customers, I am going to have to put a dummy 'name' before the PO Box - and pay again to get it re-sent - how pathetic !
Other producers beware !
Does anyone from Canada have any idea why their Customs/Postage service is so screwed up ?
