When I was a kid, the women wore grey rubber raincoats during their baptisms. The night I was first baptized...notice I said first...the women wore these and went barefooted, and it drove me crazy. The second time, my future wife and I went into the tank, and she went first..something about her bare feet and painted toes getting into the water..and the clanking of the weights at the bottom of those crazy raincoats. My church has since gone from the raincoats to robes and now to plain clothes, which isnt too exciting. I always feel like lightning is going to strike or something, but I would always be the one to "baptize" girls whenever there was a pool around. I was able to get my wife to get into a sundress in our backyard pool and do the deed at midnight, but she never liked to do that in public. She says she will let me dunk her in whatever outfit I choose if we find a hotel with a private pool. I already have a black graduation robe and will order a white one. She picked out a dress she wouldnt mind getting wet, and of course I am looking for a cheap raincoat!! |

By Getwet - Sat 29/10/05 08:46:01 GMT Anyone else here grow up in a baptist church during the 60's? Bapist practice full immersion baptisms. The church I attended, the girls/women would wear white blouses with a skirt and the guys a white shirt/slacks. Just rememeber quite a few wet blouses with bras peaking thru from underneath when coming up out of the water. Remember too the night I did it, stepping in the water with my clothes on and remembering how good the warm water felt. Loved those baptism nights! Unfortunately, they switched to robes that didn't do much when wet. Guess they figured the girls in wet blouses might be turning some of the guys on. My wife couldn't believe the girls actually wore their clothes for getting baptised, but they did. She said at her church she just remembers wearing the robes. Just a thought. I was just thinking about this and was telling it to the wife not long ago. |
