Well, as described in the post I had to manually retype into J&J's because of the misidentification by Nigel's Forum's filter (you can read it on J&J's -- i'm not typing it again!) the velcro on one side came unsewn but did last long enough to have fun doing all four strokes without my umbrella dress getting tangled round my arms. Proof of concept succeeded. I will continue this thread when I swim in it again, but only on J&J's because of this random IP blocking rubbish. So, yes (big surprise) I'm back! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Website: https://tinyurl.com/janetjulia As in previous posts, I described how I now always swim in a blue-and-orange flared-sleeved hippie top (in place of my black rashie) nowadays, at my local public pool (Fusion), plus long black flowery lycra leggings, and occasionally one or two umbrella (google it) dresses. I described how whien I wore two umbrella dresses, one over the other, they clung to each other (instead of clinging to me) which caused front crawl to be somewhat slower (due to the extra drag, lol). I thus reverted to just one umbrella dress over my flared-sleeved hippie top, but theis tended to float up under my arms when doing backstroke. So (to bring you up to date) for today's swim I sewed two strips of velcro to the outside of my leggings, one next to each hip, and playtested it when dry. The skirt of the umbrella dress did in fact stick to the velcro successfully. However when I did this in the pool. the wet rayon fabric of the dress didn't stick very well. So it means now sewing little velcro squares to each of the umbrella dresses that I swim in, so the hems stick to the top of my leggings, stopping them floating up round my arms during backstroke (no problem during freestyle or breaststroke, as the extra drag holds the 'drag' in place). I did manage to twirl round (alternating between breast&back, and between crawl&back) without it floating up though. And, no, the lifeguards don't mind, they're used to seeing me swim in weird stuff by now (and turn up to reception in a pink wig, kaftan, and wedgie sandals! Yay ![]() ![]() |
