Sorry...I am not an expert on details...I can only remember some rough details off top of my head. But as I recall...the history of such gameshows started in France in the late 1950's with their inter-village games called "Intervilles" and in the UK the BBC had their gameshow called TOP TOWN in the late 50's...and it became famous (to me anyway) in the early 1960's when the BBC changed the name from TOP TOWN to IT'S A KNOCKOUT and David Vine, Katie Boyle, Eddie Waring and Stuart Hall were hosts. I followed it all thru the late 60's and early 70's on BBC tv (in those days it was great...lots of gym skirts in the pool, not leggings). Meanwhile in Europe the French continued with Intervilles and the Germans had Telematch.,..and then all the European countries started competing against each other in JEUX SAN FRONTIERES.

Your best place to read for starters is here..

I also have videotape copies of some of the Australian version of IT'S A KNOCKOUT shows too.

JSF went off the air in the mid 1990's...and so have most other versions now. The Japanese have similar style wacky games...i.e. like the Takeshi's Castle gameshow (re-titled and dubbed for TNN in the USA).

Spain has had it's version called Gran Prix for several years too.

You can find lots of websites to research all this stuff.

Sadly...none of the shows done these days are as nicely done as they were in the late 60's and early 70's...i.e. when the women dressed like women for the games (and not like fuzzy animals or in unisex spandex suits). These days..the shows are overdone with too many silly animal costumes and too much spandex for my tastes. It was a lot better when things where less flashy and more simple...i.e. girls competing in the pool in gym skirts and blouses...like that famous school girls in the pool scene from the "Her Masters Voice"  episode of THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.

Hi I read a message from a while back when you talked about

the gameshows telematch (germany) and grandprix (spain).

What cool games did they feature.

By the way do you know the original names (in respective languages) of these shows and the networks they aired on

in these 2 countries because I am trying to search the web for more info

thanks
