They do make Waterproof cell phones. Motorola has one I believe they sell through sprint / nextel. Verizon has one also, I just replaced my old phone with the new verizon one. It is called the G'zone, look it up on the web. I can vouch for it being waterproof, Mine has thus far been submerged many times(close to 12 now I believe) and it still works. Actually used it in the shower 2 times with no problems. And I got caught in a rain storm with it in my pocket, it stayed in there until I got home and changed clothes many hours later. It has taken all that and still is working great. It's the best phone I have ever had...none of the fancy MP3 players, and other assorted entertainment junk...pretty much just a phone, with a mediocre camera. But it is tough, and can withstand many dunkings...I'll keep testing that and let you know if I kill it.
Many of the non- waterproof phones can be saved. As mentioned earlier, turn it off ASAP after getting wet, remove the battery, allow to air dry for a day, and then you can bury it in rice for a few days. I have never tried this, but have heard the rice will draw the moisture out. Last year I had a normal phone get submerged, then washed, and when I remembered it was in my pocket...it was thumping around in the dryer. I didn't even try to dry it out, thinking after all that it was dead. I was cleaning up not too long ago and found that phone. Jsut for grins I figured I'd try and see if it work. The friggin thing powered right up. Don't be too quick to pitch em if ya get one wet...give it time to dry, and try the rice thing....it jsut might work. |

By John - Sun 12/08/07 06:27:09 GMT Why aren't cell phones made waterproof? Maybe their makers realize they'll sell more phones by not making them so, and consumers haven't been demanding waterproof phones. |

By Sopping - katakai1@verizon.net Sat 11/08/07 21:15:05 GMT In a series of mindlessly similar girls-in-jeans-get-thrown-into-the-swimming-pool videos which have been going on all summer, I just wonder how many cell phones have been sacrificed to these rituals, These days, everyone seems to have one in his/her pocket. In some cases, I have noted that they were removed before the dunking...but I'll bet, not in most. I was delighted to see, in one posted tonight, that while the guy was trying to throw the girl in, he was pushed in as well. With his cellphone! Good, served him right!
