I'm guessing your judgement is based on what you've seen of downloaded clips. It isn't a reasonable comparison, unless you look at the highest bandwidth clips ever posted. One example which comes to mind was something like 35MB (perhaps more) for less than 1 minute. What is pretty clear to me is that Styx is using some pretty high-quality video gear (for shooting and editing), but when they post their material, they have to sacrifice something for the sake of internet bandwidth. The result is a compromise and yes, would not meet television broadcast standards. However, I think the original source recordings might even meet hi-def standards; it would certainly exceed standards for conventional broadcast TV. I'm sure that what ends up on DVD would probably be of excellent quality.

Just thought some of you might be interested, Styx has just agreed to shoot a series of music videos for a large publishing company (they publish "Pop Idols" in the UK).

This is for a new series of music DVDs that will feature "soft glamour" style visual content- similar to Playboy but with less nudity.

Most of the work will be the usual stuff - but they have agreed that we can shoot a "full scale wetlook" music production as a taster. In fact they think the wetlook theme is brilliant and are really keen to use it on some of their releases, if it proves popular.

We'll let you know when it's released.
