1. If a fill-in flash is used, backlighting can be most effective. An almost blacked-out subject or is not.
2. All the photo programs I have encountered have a way of boosting the "forelight" and negating the effects of backlighting. THis is also useful in bringing out the images in dark (and sometime very dark) interior pool parties and such.
3. If the photographer backlights for mood and artistic reasons, I will destroy such with my "anti-backlighting," after I review the downloaded files. And I do.
