If this is the gal I remember from about five years ago then she didn't die of cancer. She was an experienced technical diver and got duped into taking a BSing inexperienced diver down to 178 feet. They had planned plenty of safety into the dive including multiple decompression and safety stops on the way up. They were using multi-gas mix in their tanks. Seems like the other guy sucked up his air quickly, paniced and shot to the surface holding his breath. Rachel, who was (is, I hope, still) a qualified instructor through several recognized agencies instinctively tried to stop him and ended up with a fairly severe case of the CNS bends. As of June 29, 1999 she was recovering. I've heard nothing about her since. I think the other guy died of lung expansion (lungs simple blew up). I assumed Rachel survived with perhaps some residual problems but don't know for sure. BTW I am a physician, trained (somewhat) in diving medicine and am an experienced open water diver.

I just wanted to let everyone know why I haven't updated the site with my wife's pictures on it lately. We had some other pictures and then she saw some mean comments on the guestbook and they hurt her feelings and she's having second thoughts about posting more. I'm trying to talk her into it but it'll probably take time.

Also, a few days ago someone asked about the Jeans Rachel pictures and asked if anyone had them. I think I have all of them from both sets, jeans and dress. I'll inquire if it would be ok to post them. I'm pretty sure she died of pancreatic cancer but I'll ask someone I know who knows her husband to see if it would be ok to post the pictures. I'll keep everyone informed.
