I am getting bombarded with the doom virus emails at the rate of about 30 per hour too...and am hitting the delete button faster than a tommy gun....

...my worst nightmare are not the viruses...cos antivirus software can detect those...and I can detect the rest....my worst nightmare are neophyte newbies to the net who send me emails with vague titles...such as "Hi Wamtec"....cos...don't do that. If you send me an email with a vague header...the chances are...I will never read it...it gets deleted and unread. So...I hope folks will learn the new netiquette these days...i.e. you have GOT to be specific whenever you email somebody these days...cos if you use vague headers...the chances are that the recipient will delete your message without bothering to read it.

Actually...the worst part about this new doom virus is...many of the emails pretend to be "return undeliverable" messages...and when I email somebody their ID and password or confirm their order...and it bounces back...I like to see what the email was that bounced back...so I can try to reach them again...but NOW...it is too risky to open "return undeliverable" messages...cos many are the virus itself...so now if my email to somebody gets rejected...I will not know it...cos I cannot open those rejects any more.

Hey...I admire artificial intelligence....when somebody takes the time to analyze my profile and send me a targetted spam ad that they think will match my profile...i.e. OK..so I can understand why I keep getting all these emails trying to sell me Viagara...ha ha.....but I don't have much respect for the folks who keep sending me emails that tell me that my career could be enhanced if I had my breasts enlarged....I think there is a error in their demographics programming there...ha ha

It's highly unlikely that you will find a virus that would have any effect on a MAC- so even if you open them it wouldn't do any harm.

However you will get loads of emails from dumbo PC users without virus protection- these will clog up your mail box unfortunately.

I use a Mac, too, but not Outlook. I don't mind logging onto a website each time to get my e-mails. Nonetheless, I've gotten 'replies' from 'addresses' that I supposedly sent an attachment to, and I don't know the addresses. So, is a virus using my address to send spam, or are these viruses trying to trick me into opening them?

I think I'm going to get a different address sometime soon. Damn spam keeps ya movin' along.

I have a MAC, but I do use Outlook Express and have been getting some of the virus infected e-mail (3 or 4 a day). My Norton anti-virus seems to be working fine, my computer is not infected; I just have to delete the offending e-mails along with the viagra adds, overseas meds, Joe Blow the billionaire from Nigeria and penis enlargement SPAMS. What bithers me is that I have also gotten returned mail notices which means my e-mail account has somehow turned some of the e-mails around so that they seem to have been sent from me. I don't know how to stop that. In the for-waht-its-worth department, I don't keep addresses in my address folder (it's blank). If there is anything I should be doing to prevent the virus infected e-mails from using my address, let me know!.

Two ideas actually.

1) Move to Apple- had to get that one in Graham ;)

2) Someone could devise an absolutely awesome virus that could totally trash unprotected computers. That way all the losers that can't be bothered to have virus protection would be offline for good- problem solved- the virus writers wouldn't have any more targets and we wouldn't have the whole internet slowed down by dumbos

Why doesn't Microsoft take the $250,000 and fix their crappy software that allows for any bright 14yr old to launch an attack from it's software.

Microsoft has 10's of billions in cash, why don't they spend some of it to repair their broken, insecure systems instead of just talking about it. This is like the auto companies blaming the Crash Test Institute when their cars fair badly in the simulated auto crashes.

If your product is defective, then don't go blaming everybody else when they find your mistakes!  Microsoft even goes a step further and then charges you to fix their mistakes, ie, XP service contracts or forcing you to upgrade to fix the faulty software.

Microsoft is NOT your friend, if they had their way, they would force every competitor out of business and charge you even more once they had a complete monopoly.

If you're reading this and your PC is affected, the DOS (Denial of Service) attack that will probably begin from your PC on 1 Feb will likely slow down your Net connection so much that you'll be unable to visit this forum or any WAM site. Now, there's an incentive to get your finger out!

I am getting about 200-300 viruses to my in-box a day now!

My Norton Internet Security deletes the attachments, but they are still a pain!
