Yep...those parasitic programs can often hijack your browser, change your home page, open your cd drive door, keep re-generating etc etc.
Thats why I bought my wife her own laptop....cos I got fed up with the wife downloading all this free stuff like mp3's and other stuff...and then we have some stupid gorilla dancing across the page..ha ha.
The simple fix is...if you are non techie person like me (who does not have the knowledge to tinker with the registry to get rid of parasite programs)... is to install a register cleaner software...I use "RegCleaner"...and it can easily identify the rogue programs that are screwing up your browser, and kill them for you...without having to know how to mess with the registry yourself or risk killing your pc by deleting the wrong file.
Of course....the golden rule is...never let anybody use your pc when you are not there to watch them. Buy your wife her own pc...and if you have kids...by them their own pc too.

By ray - ray_diaz1@yahoo.com Mon 26/01/04 07:11:01 GMT It sounds like it may have installed an entry in your Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/run registry key, I would look there and do a seach using "coolsearch" or "websearch"
WARNING: Do NOT attempt to modify your registry unless you know what you are doing, or your computer may become completely screwwed up! |

By Piet - Mon 26/01/04 06:36:26 GMT Spybot and Ad-Aware didn't help. |
In reply to Message (8261) Anybody else here have Websearch or Coolsearch "invade" their browser...
By Getwet - Mon 26/01/04 04:02:58 GMT and it takes over your Internet Explorer homepage? You can change it to something else and it's back the next time you crankup your computer. Anybody have any idea how to get rid of it? I've even gone into my registry for Internet Explorer and Modified it by deleting/removing it. Just a nusiance that something is so invasive like that. |
