But that is the curious dichotomy .... i.e. if only 10,000 people in the world get turned on by wetlook, why does the mainstream media use wetlook in their posters and video box covers to promote their films and tv shows.....because they could get millions of red blooded men interested if they used some other way to promote films.
I guess wetlook could be a metaphorical device that you commonly see in Indian movies.....i.e. you see plenty of wetlook in the Indian and Pakistani media but this is not because Indians and Pakistani like wetlook, it is because wetlook is used as a metaphorical device to portray sexual foreplay, and because their media is censored they cannot show direct nudity or sex acts, so they use wetlook to imply sexual foreplay. The demographics prove my theory that wetlook is merely a metaphor in Indian media and there is no direct interest in wetlook media by these stats...i.e. there are 1.8 billion Indian's and Pakistani's on this planet and they are 26% of the earth's population....yet we do not see anywhere near 26% of the visitors to this forum with the Indian flag. This forum has around 4000 visitors and there is only 1 known Indian wetlook fan who posts here. I have communicated with over 7000 wetlook fans over the last 25 years and I have only ever encountered one person from India who is a wetlook fan....yet India has the largest film producton in the world and produces 3-4 time more films per year than Hollywood does. Wetlook is a merely an obligatory "cliche" in Indian films.....i.e the obligatory wetlook scene always happens in the first half of film.....just like Hollywood car pursuits or foot chases are required to knock over a fruit cart during the chase.. |

By Silas - Thu 18/10/18 21:02:53 GMT You've said many times, MK, that there are only 10,000 or so wetlook fans. Noone else watches the film for the wetlook. Hollywood could care less about the .000001% of people who feel ripped off by the wetlook trailer with no wetlook in the film. |

By MK - wamtec@comcast.net Thu 18/10/18 14:12:19 GMT Yeah... "Friends" was yet another example of a wetlook tease in the opening credits that never any part of any episode of "Friends"....
>Makes you care about the character more, so when they get slaughtered it's all the more shocking.
Now that would have made a great episode of Friends...I would tune in to see that..
Only in the movies and tv can you get away with what is blatant false advertising.
Imagine if car dealers did the same thing....and showed you a picture of a Mercedes and after you paid for the car they delivered a Yugo to you....and then when why you asked why it was a Yugo and not what they advertised, they told you that they show pics of nicer cars in order to make the consumer feel more relaxed and comfortable and to have a sense of connection.....ha ha
No matter how you explain it, I would still feel I got ripped.

In reply to Message (74961.2.1.1.1) same reason horror movies do nude scenes
By Silas - Wed 17/10/18 23:45:18 GMT Think about how many horror movies have nudity or wetlook in them. It gives the audience a sense of intimate connection with the character. Makes you care about the character more, so when they get slaughtered it's all the more shocking.
So... a steamy or joyful scene of wet clothing makes the audience more receptive to the characters, more apt to care about them, and their fate. The characters seem more like real people, more down to earth - like the group on "Friends", where every episode started with a wetlook romp in a fountain. This is a simple and cheap technique to get millions of people interested in your new show, in just a few seconds on the trailer. |

By wetimer - wetimer@zoho.com Wed 17/10/18 22:23:26 GMT Bully (2001). Excellent and hard hitting film. But it featured this picture in the publicity:
There's one other shot kicking around from the same shoot. Google "Bijou Phillips wet" and you'll find it.
I was waiting for this to come along in the film, and got really excited when the beach scene started. But it wasn't there. Not even in the extra scenes on the DVD! |

By MK - wamtec@comcast.net Wed 17/10/18 22:06:03 GMT ....another annoying trend that they often do in Latiino telenovelas is that they shoot interesting wetlook scenes in the opening credits.....and then those scenes never appear in any of the episodes....
Here is one example.....some very nice scenes at the end of the opening credits here,,,,,that caused me to waste my time downloading all 150 episodes of this series.....and no such scenes are in any episode....nada

In reply to Message (74961) Why do they do that ?
By MK - wamtec@comcast.net Wed 17/10/18 20:36:02 GMT I am sure many of you have experienced this before....i.e., being burned by a totally misleading video box cover or movie poster that shows an interesting wetlook scene and when you watch the film or tv series there is no such scene anywhere in the movie or tv show.....past examples being
The Robert Downey Marisa Tomei film "Only You" https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-marisa-tomei-robert-downey-jr-poster-only-you-1994-31059301.html
The Robin Williams film "Club Paradise" https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090856/mediaviewer/rm1234357760
and I could list numerous other examples of misleading production photos.
Anyway, the latest example of a misleading promo picture is the 2018 mini-series "Safe Harbor" which is currently airing on Hulu
https://www.lookimg.com/images/2018/08/27/G6Nyg.jpg
This poster pic is very nice but is 180 degrees away from portraying what this series is about. Looking at the pic you would think this is a light comedy or drama series....when in reality it is a very dark and boring suspense series where 80% of the imagery is in dark lighting...nothing like what you see in the pic.
I used to waste thousand of dollars in the 1980's renting VHS tape that had misleading box covers. Thankfully these days money and time are not wasted cos with a high speed internet connection it also takes a few minutes to de-bunk false advertising in films and tv shows,
