Thanks for posting your latest photos - they're great, as always.
I have a quick question for you about Bournemouth. I was there last weekend in glorious weather and took a walk along the East cliff are saw absolutely nothing of note. Plenty of people on the beach and in the sea but nobody wearing regular clothes. When I got to the area around the pier there were suddenly many, many people in the sea wearing clothes.
As you have said previously, many were of Asian origin but there were also many European women. There were plenty of women wearing, shorts, skirts, dresses and jeans. My favourite was a woman of about 20, who was with four guys. Three of the guys were in the water already throwing a ball around and I saw her walking towards the water with another. She wore a long white dress with floral print. She waded out to the group until she was chest deep in the water and played with them for about 5 minutes before they all walked back to shore. She wore dark underwear, which could clearly be seen through her dress.
I continued to walk along the beach and all of a sudden, about 100m there was no more wetlook at all, even though there were still many beach users. Does this match your experience? Do those in wet clothes usually stay close to the pier? |

Dad passed away at the end of last month. I don't usually like the euphemism "passed away" when you can just say "died", but it feels appropriate in this case - he just spent less and less time awake, until eventually he stopped waking up at all. So that is the most significant of the circumstances which have been conspiring to keep me in Scotland.
That said, my real Flickr fans will have noticed that I did manage to get as far as Blackpool (much closer to Scotland than the south coast, of course) a couple of weeks ago. It is nigh on 20 years since I was last there - that previous visit was actually a 3-day conference with colleagues in the same line of work as me from all over the UK, and it was a June heatwave; and we spent the time saying to one another "I thought this was a holiday resort.....?" because despite the hot weather the beach was deserted.
I had forgotten the sheer scale of the place, with about three miles (5 Km) between the "Pleasure Beach" fairground attractions to the south, and the fancy Victorian hotel quarter to the north (and the Tower half way in between). So when you're at the water's edge you can see faint figures (looking like the people in a Lowry painting) stretching into the far distance, any of whom might (but probably aren't) getting their clothes wet, and if they are they will have headed back up the beach long before you get there. And the beach is dead flat, which means that either the water is a deterrent 500 metre walk from the prom, or there is no sand at all (apart from a token 100 metres or so by the Tower) and the waves are crashing against the prom. And when you do get into the water you have to walk another 100 metres just to get the water up to your knees; and walking through even shallow water is exhausting so most people give up before they're significantly wet.
There were lots of women got the bottom few centimetres of their trousers wet, but not much else to photograph. Except, late on the Saturday evening when all normal Blackpool visitors are drunk, and on this occasion the tide was in, a crazy Indian woman was soaking herself on the token 100 metres of sand, and on seeing me also getting my trousers wet she waved at me theatrically to join her, then said over and over that she loved the sea and kept throwing herself into it; I said "can I take some pictures" and she said "yes"; I said "do you want me to email them to you" and she said "no, just do what you like with them, put them on the internet, whatever" - so just a tiny fraction of the many poses she did for me are on my Flickr site - maybe not the greatest figure in the world, but.....! https://www.flickr.com/photos/105715846@N06/
I've also been back twice to Portobello beach, where I feared I was losing my touch as a candid photographer, and both times managed to take a pic without anybody looking at me strangely. So my confidence is coming back, and today we created some sort of record - I took a pic of a young lady lying on the beach in wet and sandy jeans, posted it immediately, and within less than an hour from me taking it it had already been faved - she was still lying there when I got the notification of the 'faving'. So many thanks, Jordinwetjeans, for creating a record and really boosting my confidence!

Since circumstances are still conspiring to keep me away from southern English beaches when the weather gets hot, here's a consolation prize of a double helping of wet latina ladies. With a reminder that very often (especially when I have posted three links) I just post a sample of the wetlook in that lady's channel; if you click on the pic then click left or right on the arrows, you will often find more wetness.
