Under other circumstances, I'd agree with you, but I'm not sure I'd label WetBoyBrazil as your typical troll. He's actually made some worthwhile contributions. He just seems to have taken a wrong turn with the posting in question. I have seen a few other examples of folks who get the wrong end of the stick but then end up becoming valued members of our wetlook community.
Besides, the purpose of posting these conversations on a public forum is not simply to convince one person of something; it is usually with the hope that other people will benefit from the discussion also.
Yes, when it's something stupid posted anonymously, I agree - ignore it and, if it is sufficiently offensive, notify Nigel to have it removed. |
In reply to Message (7306) a novel idea?
By buddy - Mon 08/12/03 15:37:54 GMT I have a question I must ask as the forum begins to look more and more like the bad old days of Larry's Bravenet forum, with its whining, idiocy, and flame wars. Can't we just ignore the trolls, the whiners, and the morons? Do we really have to make dozens of posts justifying our right to like wet jeans, because ONE PERSON doesn't like them? Do we have to devote such mindshare to explaining to one moron why he cannot have all the producers' wares for free? Don't trolls THRIVE on attention?
I know I've been guilty on occasion of what I decry above, but all the same, here is my idea: why don't we take a pledge (at least those of us who are regulars) that the next time somebody says something stupid, we will meet it with nothing but silence. Anybody else think this idea is worth considering?
