| They are certainly "of age". 22 years old, mostly, I should think. Students at the top historic universities in Portugal (equivalent of the Russell Group in UK or Ivy League in US) wear 'uniforms' (as seen in these videos) which include ribbons ('fitas') to identify which faculty they belong to - 'queima' means 'burning' so 'queima das fitas' is when they destroy their faculty ribbons to indicate that they are no longer undergraduates. |
