I asked this question a while ago and I'm still searching. In my old college library there was a small book with the pen and ink drawings of an artist from the (19th?) century whose style was a cross between Salvadore Dali and....the guy who illustrates Edgar Allen Poe's stories. It was these beautifully surreal"dark"drawings of death and water based themes! For instance one of his drawings involved a woman in a victorian dress washing up on the steps of a masoleum by a small tidal wave in a cemetery!Crazy stuff like that!I even went back to the old library to try and find this book so I can do an internet search on him but the book is gone which is a shame cause his work really inspired me!So any art literate/"gothic" folks here know the name of the artist I'm talking about?
