It looks like a bitrate issue to me. I downloaded it at 1440p, and when I play it back, it has a grainy look like you'd typically get with a low video bitrate. The video bitrate of the downloaded file is around 7 MBits/second, while DVD-video is 9.8 MBits and HDTV is usually 8-15 MBits. YouTube has a bitrate limit which depends upon the video resolution; I can't find anything listing the limit for 1440p, but 1080p is held to 6.8 MBits. See if you can find the video bitrate of your original file; in Windows, right-click -> Properties lists it in the "Details" tab. I bet your original has a much higher bitrate, and it was lowered by YouTube when you uploaded it.
There's a trick that people used to use years ago, but I don't know if it still works. YouTube uses the Flash Video (FLV) file format, and your video was converted to it when you uploaded it. In the past, you could convert the video to FLV yourself, using settings beyond what YouTube typically allows, and upload the resulting FLV file. YouTube wouldn't do any converting to files that were already in FLV format. I don't know if that's still the case, though; you'd have to try it and see if it comes out any better. |
