What "vile connotation" could hawk possibly have? I know that it can refer to a person who believes in a strong national defense, but I do believe in that. It can be used pejoritavely to mean a warmonger, but we who believe in a strong national defense use the word positively. Anyway, that's not where I came up with the name. I just now realized that hawk has the pro-defense meaning. I came up with the name because I do live in the American Southwestern Desert, and Desert Hawk sounds cooler than Desert Rat, which I also considered. I am unaware of any sexual meaning to the word "hawk". Now that you mention it, "wolf" has a pejorative meaning. I was considering Desert Wolf too. Good thing I didn't pick that. But there is a video game called Operation Wolf. I doubt that the designers are perverts, but I suppose anything could be dirty if you really use your imagination. I jsut got tired of Whammy Dude being misread as Wham My Dude.

I occasionally post here and I've been using this name "Hawk" for a long time (no concerns about you using "Desert Hawk", have fun with your new name). But, you need to know, if perverted sexual references are something you are trying to avoid, the word "hawk" (especially chicken hawk) has some of the most vile connotation imginable. I stick with my name because of some old Indian things in my past, but I use it heads up.

Again, I have no problem with you using a name similar to mine, and wish you only the best of luck and happiness with it.

I want to officially notify everybody that the artist formerly known as Whammy am officially changing my internet handle to Desert Hawk. On Yahoo I was known as "Whammydude" because Whammy was already taken. this has led to considerable confusion about the meaning of the name. Several people thought it was read "Wham My Dude". that's incorrect, it is "Whammy Dude". It comes from an old American gameshow called Press Your Luck. Buy several idiots thought it was a perverted sexual reference. Nothing could be further from the truth, but the misinterpretations have gotten to be too much. Therefore, after careful thought, I have decided to start going by the name Desert Hawk. On Yahoo it is "thedeserthawk". When you see Desert Hawk, it is the artist formerly known as Whammy(dude). Has anyone else ever had to change a handle because of confusion over it's meaning? Gee, this is getting tiring typing this same message on every website that I have frequented.
