Yes, I remember that exact ad - it was circa 1974. (I remember her outfit as navy blue or black jeans and turtleneck, but after 40+ years that's pretty close.) After the 20-something woman climbed out of the water, she sat down on the pool deck and a young man came over and started brushing her hair for her while she explained to the viewers how well her wet bra continued to function. The explanation was completely gratuitous, given that she was holding her chest in profile to the camera. Oh how I wished I were that guy with the hairbrush!
There were one or two other "even when wet" Playtex ads at the time, but the pool dive was definitely the best. Alas, those were the days before cheap VCRs so they're probably lost forever. |

By Amf - Thu 31/12/15 03:23:03 GMT I remember a different but similar ad. I believe it for Playtex Cross your Heart bras. It featured a full figured woman in a sweater and tight slacks, standing on a diving board. Then she dives into the water fully clothed and climbs back out, and shows how well her bra still functions in spite of her sopping wet sweater. It might have been what started me on a lifetime of wetlook! I'd love to see it again! Anyone else ever seen it? MK? |
In reply to Message (66159) Old wet bra ad
By Ngawa - Wed 30/12/15 12:58:54 GMT Here's one for the oldies - does anybody remember a TV ad from the UK in the late 60s or early 70s featuring a dancer getting drenched with buckets of water? It was for a bra and the wettings were to show how it held its shape even after repeated soakings. It went something like this - there's a girl dancing on a stage in a wearing a sweater and skirt. Then a voiceover says something like "Julie's bra gets washed twice a night." Then she gets a good soaking with a couple of buckets of water and stands there dripping. The rest of the ad is the usual "new and improved to cross your heart in twenty different directions while it lifts, separates and so on" before it cuts to a final shot of the model back dancing and getting yet another bucket of water thrown over her. Even as a child this turned me on in a way that I didn't quite understand but it was still fun.
I wouldn't mind seeing that ad now but internet searches haven't turned up anything.
