It looks like it uses the hosts bandwidth, which would mean slowing your own browsing down to a crawl if people are downloading from you.

These things can be agonisingly slow- a popular clip can mean 100 downloads at any one time. The download will take place at the upload speed of the host (usually 50% of his download speed) and this capacity is split between all the users.

So someone with an average broadband connection of 512 kb per second will have an upload of 256 kb per second. If only 10 people want to download the clip that means they will each only get 25kb per second, which is around 3 kilobytes per second- much slower than a dial up connection to a proper server. A reasonable sized stills picture would take over a minute to download- a popular movie clip could take hours and hours.

As all webmasters know, there are some pretty mean people out there (the average forum visitor doesn't realise) who take great delight in screwing things up for everyone- we've even had trolls and trouble makers on this forum.

Throwing your computer open to these people would be crazy!

Vistors to the forum might be complacent in thinking that the wetlook community only extends to about 50 to 100 people who seem to post on this forum- but there are several thousand who you never see or hear of- but who devour any free material like a plague of locusts! A small number within this group are malicious and would love to create havoc witin this community- I certainly wouldn't allow access to my computer to some of these people.

Judging by the quantity of the hacking, cracking, DOS attacks we get plus the volume of virus contaminated emails that come through- it would be a dangerous route to follow unless you were a real expert in computing.

At the end of the day, the company who are putting this together are providing nothing- they use other peoples material, other peoples computers and other peoples bandwidth and then "piggyback" advertising onto what you download to provide an income for themselves.

Interesting....tell us some more about how this works. Is this just another peer to peer file sharing system like Kazaa is...i.e. what pc or server or bandwidth are these clips on....the poster...or the host..and who is the host.

FYI...I am willing to post my free video clips to somebody elses server for all to see....but I will not allow my pc to be accessed, cos I cannot afford to have my pc being hacked or bogged down all the time with incoming traffic (as was the case when Napster was around and everybody shared music file...my wife was so active on Napster that our home pc was totally bogged down all the time with incoming callers grabbing files from us).

I don't trust many of these services...what with the spyware that many of them put on your pc, and with so many viruses these days...I am not going to allow folks to access any of the 4 pcs on my home network....but I am perfectly willing to post my stuff to somebody elses server...and if they have the bandwidth...thats fine...just so long as this does not impact my connectivity.

People on the UMD share their free clips on the direct connect hub, which is essentially KaZaA for WAM.  At the moment it is mostly messy clips but there are quite a lot of wetlook clips available, like the free clips MK gives us.  To use the DC hub, go to http://www.neo-modus.com/ and download the Direct Connect client (this isn't the only one available by the way).  When you have installed it, run the program and connect to torg.lockmist.com:20000 which is the WAM hub, it's pretty simple to use and you should be able to find some of the free wetlook clips you have missed.

By the way, I am in no way condoning the sharing of non-free media via this hub, I am just informing you people who don't use the UMD that the hub exists and its a free way to share clips without having to worry about bandwidth.
