The ice bucket challenge is largely an internet phenomenon.  Statistically, I suspect the population on the internet is primarily white.  In our society (at least here in the States), the education level, and therefore the mean income is higher for whites, meaning more people with fast internet connections and computers fast enough to view videos, and the free time for this sort of thing, are white.  Until the percentage of blacks that have access to quality education and a secure living environment pulls even with whites, these kinds of things will show up.  Another factor might be that more whites have access to swimming lessons and recreational swimming while growing up, so they may be a little more comfortable dumping a bucket of water over their head.  I may be wrong, but I believe the numbers of blacks in watersports (as well as golf, motorsports and other expensive sports) is lower, and the percentage of drownings among non-whites, is higher.

It's called white privilege, us whites tend to get opportunities that a lot of blacks don't get, and don't even notice the inequity.  Our bad.
