If that is true, then how come the flight attendants do not make announcements to the female PASSENGERS to remove their pantyhose as well.....cos they don't....so what that says is that the flight crew only care about themselves...and not the female passangers.

Regarding the subject of "friction" and pantyhose......as any scuba diver knows.....just google any scuba diving forum, and you will see that it is a common practice for scuba divers to wear pantyhose under their wetsuits for decades....many do it....cos it enables scuba divers to slip on and off their wetsuits more easily....and other divers have been wearing pantyhose for decades too.....cos pantyhose is a protection against jellyfish stings.....so many divers use pantyhose.

And....if you really want a gross image to be stuck in your mind and traumatize you for life.......read up on William Shatner....who has been an accomplished horse rider for 50 years.....cos he and other male horse rides will often wear pantyhose while riding their horses.....cos pantyhose is used by MALE horseriders because it PREVENTS friction in sensitive areas.....i.e. pantyhose prevents CHAFING....and both William Shatner and Tom Selleck have joked about how they wear pantyhose when they go horse riding.

So....as far as scuba diving and horse riding goes....pantyhose is used to PREVENT friction.....it does not cause it.....just google those 2 sports and pantyhose and you will find many results.

It is true that pantyhose melts to the skin if you are in a fire....and some airlines decided not to have their flight attendants wear pantyhose....for safety reasons....but what does that say about an airline that tell's it's flight attendants not to wear pantyhose....while it let's the female paseangers board that same plane with pantyhose....i.e. it shows a lack of caring for the passangers. It reminds me of that old airline joke....i.e.

...on an Air India flight ....the captain makes an announcement..

..."We are about to crash land into the ocean......will all those who can swim move to the left side of the plane.....and all those who can't swim please move to the right side of the plane"..

and after the plane lands in the water....the captain makes another announcement,,,,

..."Passengers on the left side of the plane who can swim....the exit doors are on your left side........all those on the right.....thank you for flying Air India"

think id risk friction burns rather than trying to get off pantyhose in a hurry on what might be a fire or sinking plane, its alot harder to swim f you only managed to half get off your hose, ie being knocked into the water by other passengers, maybe thats why we never heard of it before, just kick off shoes  (or clothes) with any sharp points where possible, i dont think the high heel thing is a swimming issue but more a puncture issue, to either other people or inflatables

as for pantyhose they would be very useful on a island

Friction will cause the pantyhose to melt to your leg sliding down the evac slide.

I wondered if it was something to do with fire risks? Pantyhose burn very easily, or melt if hot and could therefore pose an extra danger if you keep them on. Can't imagine it's common practice among other airlines though

One bit of that video looks somehow familiar - the flight attendant interrupting whatever she was supposed to be doing so that she could remove her pantyhose. After all, as we all know (as evidenced by countless wetlook clips), women can't swim in pantyhose Tongue !
