LM,

I am sure you and or Jim at Wetlook Unlimited can do an interactive wetlook video far better than I can. I just don't have the patience to do that right now...nor the programming skills. Somebody like Jim has the skills to do proper interactive dvd authoring...and I have a short attention span and don't like dicking around with editing and pc stuff.

I am known for being "Ed Wood" when it comes to film making (if anybody does not know who he is...go rent the Johnny Depp portrayal of his life story...it's a great film). Ed Wood was one of the first fetish film makers in the 1950's (he was into cross dressing and cashmere sweaters). There was never a "2nd take" in anything he shot. He was "one take Eddie" and all the mistakes were just left in the movie as they happened (hence why his film "Plan 9 from Outer Space" is widely regarded as being the worst film ever made).

Anyway....I like to shoot fast (I typically shoot 8 to 10 wetlook scenes in one day), and to do an interactive video would mean shooting 32 or 64 different permutations of the same scene...over and over...in different sequential orders. It would probably take at least 2 solid weeks of filming just to shoot all the permutated footage....and then at LEAST another 6 to 9 months of editing and programming to produce a fully interactive wetlook DVD. As any pc gamer knows...most of those dvd games take 12 to 18 months in development and programming before they are ready to release.

The idea of an interactive wetlook dvd sounds really great in theory...but it is more work than any one of us could do on our own. We would need to have a team of writers, models, cameraman, video editors and programmers with dvd authoring experience. My guess is...it needs a team of at least 3 to 6  people to do such a project. It may take 6 months to produce and cost at least $25,000 or more to make...and the chances of recovering that cost from wetlook dvd sales is slim to none...so it may be better to be done as a pure art project (as LM is thinking of doing) cos I doubt it would be viable as a commercial business venture.

Oi!

That's my idea!

When I eventually get to uni, i plan to make a wam interactive DVD, chose the girl, chose the outfit and chose the wam substance!

A huge amount of filming and editing needed for that.

Only joking, you will probably get there first and good luck to you MK.

Actually, to be honest, I am cheating  -- I am not creating DVDs via authoring them in a sophisticated way (i.e. with interactive menus). Jim at Wetlook Unlimited is creating DVDs very nicely using proper authoring tools. His DVDs are really done nicely.

I do not have the time to do proper authoring with interactive features. I am merely doing a "digital clone" from our master tapes to a DVD, so it plays just like a tape with vcr controls, but without the added features that Jim's DVDs have.

At the moment I am just producing DVDs as clones of the VHS tape, but in higher quality. I am not really using all the added features you can do such as adding picture galleries, screensavers, calendars, hot link to online site, interactive gaming etc.

One of these days I would like to produce a truly "interactive" DVD for wetlook...i.e. a DVD where the viewer can control the model and decide what outfit she picks from the wardrobe, whether she goes to the bath, pool or lake, and mouse controls to determine how she dunks herself. It would take 10 times longer to shoot such a video with so many permutations....but it might be a lot of fun to create an interactive experience where the viewer can control every move the model makes.

You are probably a year or two ahead of our time, THAT's GREAT!

DVD has superior quality and perfect still/pause that vhs can't come close to. DVD is the future.

However, DVD recorders are at least 5 times the cost of a cheap VCR. The best price on blank disks that I've found is on ebay at $1.50 ea.

I recently got a Pioneer A04 burner. By using Sonic DVDIT and Ulead Movie Factory, I have finally got a good DVD with one exception - it won't sequence to the next clip on the menu. I have to manually select each menu clip to play.

There's a greater learning curve for DVDs (or us older geeks can't handle the new technology)
