There are several ways to do this....you can
1) Go buy yourself a multiformat DVD player.....cos most of the very cheap dvd players that say "made in china" and are sold at Walmart or Target....and cost only $35.....i.e. the "Insignia" brand name is one brand...and another cheap brand of made in china dvd players are the "LiteOn" brand of players......and ironically....these cheap $35 players from China are actually very good players....cos they are loaded with all the codecs to play European PAL format DVD disks....and they will allow you to load a Pal DVD and then the player outputs an NTSC american signal so you can watch it on your tv etc. I have several of these players...and they play European PAL disks just fine. And ironically...it is the expensive machines like Sony and Panasonic and Samsung that are useless at playing PAL disks...cos their players sold in the USA will only play American DVDs......or...
2) You can just watch the disk on your PC....cos even if your dvd player is not able to play a PAL disk from Europe....you PC certainly can....so just load the disk to your PC and then you can use VLC player or Gom Player to watch it on your PC.
3) If you have video edting software on your pc....then it is possible for you to capture the PAL disk to your PC...and then use your editing software to convert it to NTSC format and just burn a new disk in American NTSC format.
4) You can also convert a PAL European dvd disk to an American NTSC dvd disk by connecting a dvd player that can play the disk (the Insignia or LiteOn players can)...and you connect that to an American DVD recorder....cos the Insignia players will generate an NTSC output signal and then you can record than on an American DVD recorder to record a new disk in NTSC format.
If you are not able to do any of these steps.....you are a regular wamtec customer ....so just mail me your disk plus $5 for return postage, and I will convert it for you and mail the disk back to you in NTSC format.

In reply to Message (55873) Slightly O/T question
By Scott - brocherts@yahoo.com Sun 14/10/12 01:48:13 GMT Is there any way possible to view or convert a video saved to a DVD rom in PAL format to NTSC? An overseas guy sent me all of Kirsta Bruenig's videos on a DVD, but the format is PAL so I can't view it. Am I out of luck? |
