Hi, as part of my job I had to check dozens of DVD players (home theatre) checking their compability to -R, -RW, +R, +RW, VCD, SVCD, mp3 etc. The official standart for DVDs (from a shop) is DVD-R. 100% could read DVD-R/RW.
The +R/RW is a Microsoft++ invention to avoid paying royalties. They also added the multisession feature. About 90% of the DVD-players could read DVD+R/RW - (last year about 80%) In computers there are at least 4 times more DVD-R readers, because they were available 1-2 years earlier.
The empty +R medias are more expensive in most countries (about +50%).
My proposal for you is to buy a DVD -/+ R/RW burner. Then you can watch all kind of DVDs and use the cheaper -R for your own records which will run on all older players as well.
with kind regards
Bruno

By Ross - xross1@hotmail.com Tue 26/08/03 01:44:29 GMT Hi Folks,
I was planning on buying a DVD burner to put some of my wetlook movies on. I use a mini DV camcorder so all my video is digital. I have it on my hard drive right now but it has taken up almost all 160GB.
My question is weather to go for the DVD -R format or the DVD +R format. I can easily get one with both formats but the price is then double. I'm also thinking of the cost of the blank DVD's and what would be most compatiable.
What are the wetlook producers are there using?
Regards, Ross.
