Its nowhere near as bad as I thought it was at first. I have Media Player 6.4 (VERY old version...I hate WMP 9)and there was a small glitch about 2-3 sec into the video, but after that it played VERY well. I did not experience that freeze up at the 10 second mark. I am running off a 425 mhz computer with 650 megs of RAM. If I start blowing up the vid to full screen, my computer bogs a little, but its not too bad. Personally I would say keep the MPEG's for about another 3-4 months. DIVX is great, but I know my computer cannot take the processing. Also Divx is hard to get smooth. Its nowhere near as "user friendly" as MPEG's are. Thats because those who look for the REAL high quality of Divx also know how to tweak their system to make it work as smooth as possible. The Low quality versions of Divx are much like the WMV you have on the site now.

Take a look at some of the DIVX DVD movie rips you can download off the net. They are near PERFECT quality, but take gobs of CPU power. Hope this help!

have just posted a short (around 30 seconds) DivX movie to the freesite- it's on the video page.

As you know I have been experimenting with DivX to improve the quality of the movies we have available for download. I'm about 90% of the way to getting the optimum we want to put on the members' site.

Please take a look and let us know what you think- particularly when viewed full screen.

For Styx memebers this clip is taken from part 1 of the "Mackenzie" clip- you can compare the existing mpeg with the DivX and let us know your feelings as to whether it would be good to move over to this format.

I will be posting more free clips in the next few weeks as I gradually improve the quality.
