Sorry, Andy,

but what about such words as "mastership" "master craftsman" or" to master a situaton". I know that the present meaning of "master" means "rule" or "command" but the root is probably the Latin "magister" for a qualified or learned person who knows his/her trade.

(Teachers cannot keep their mouths shut).

Anyway, this "false friend" will go into my collection of absurdities.

world masters thats a joke the germans tried to be world masters in 1914 to 1918 and in 1939 to 1945 and failed
