If you have a MAC (I'm running Snow Leopard); while the video is downloading, click your "window" pull down menu at the top of your screen and choose "activity". Scroll down the items until you see a dynamic file (usually the largest file). You will see total file size on the extreme right and the current amount of the file being downloaded just to the left. This activity is the video being downloaded. Double click this in the activity window and it will download to your "Downloads" as an FLV file. The trick is to catch the video before it has completely downloaded in your browser. If you are too late, clicking on the file in the activity window will simply open the video for play with no option to save it. This won't work on real short (few seconds) clips as they download too fast. I find it works on vids that are at least 40 seconds or longer unless my internet speed is faster than normal. This trick will work on any kind of video that can play in your browser BTW.
I don't know if there is a similar thing you can do on PCs.

In reply to Message (43578) Any new tricks for saving Youtubes?
By Amf - Sat 20/03/10 22:23:45 GMT Youtube is making it harder and harder to save videos. I used to use Keepvid with good success, but now that doesn't work. The site someone posted recently, forinside.com worked for a while, but now it doesn't. It's a cat and mouse game, I guess. But does any one know any good ways to save videos now? Help would be appreciated.
