For me, no trauma and no punishment - although my parents were quite mystified by how often I turned up soaked. I remember their look, asking to themselves "Is it raining THAT hard?" No, it wasn't, but there WAS a pond on the way home.

I think my first wetlook encounter was during swimming lessons, where we had to swim in clothes. I'm not sure; it was too long ago. I remember telling my parents I liked the feeling, and asking whether it was okay to shower in my clothes. Once more that mystified look, and the reply "Well, if you must..."

We need more research...

I'm reminded (for no particular reason) of an anecdote from friends of mine. Their very young son was cooling his heels in a little swimming pool, with his friends. The boy was naked, while all the others were dressed.

One of the dressed kids jumped up, saying "I'm gonna put on my swimsuit!" To which the naked boy replied "Yes, great idea!" before they both ran off.

I think people are more likely to develop the wetlook fetish if they grew up in a home where there were punished for deliberately getting their clothes wet. Then they develop a thrill from sneaking out and going to the local river or creek to play in the river or creek in their clothes. I think that's what happened to me. It became a thrill to splash around in my clothes, and this intrest developed around age 8. Boys around that age often get erections when they get excited about stuff that's not related to sex. I think the wetlook thrill is similar to the thrill kleptomaniacs get from shoplifting.

I also wonder one other thing. Do the children of adult wetlook participants also develop a wetlook fetish? I would think possibly not, as they're not punished for getting their clothes wet, since their mom and dad often do the same thing. Maybe they grow up thinking swimming in their clothes is normal, as they've seen Mom and Dad do it, and often go swimming in their clothes as a family.

This question came to me after I was engaged in an IM conversation with someone, and eventually I happened to bring up one of the wetlook sites that frequently advertises themselves on this forum (Which one? Visit them all, dammit!

), and he more or less laughed it off, finding it totally weird and lousier than softcore pornography, prior to making theories on the webmaster's income, saying that he makes probably $30,000 a year off that website (the guy I was talking to runs a fansite for a sports team, BTW) and then he joked that he should start his own porn site.

So this led me to another question, is our enthusiam of wetlook something we trained ourselves to be, or is it an innate characteristic, activated by a satisfying stimulant?

... I guess this is yet another installment of "Nature vs. Nurture"
