You can think about all fetishes in this way. When a fetish producer does make a fetish video he does it mainly for people who enjoy this fetish, too. For them fetish is something positive and not "dirty" and the main content of the movie.

When you are broadcasting a TV show or make a Hollywood movie it isn't mainly made for the fetish people, or at least such a producer can not admit this to the public. So they try to use the fetish elements to make this more interesting for the viewers, but at the same time they try to hide the fact that it is a "dirty" fetish. Therefore in a movie it looks allways different to a fetish video.

You could also write "Latex Fetish" on the cover and sell it in a sex shop but then people will feel bad about buying/watching that movie[sm45]

Furthermore fetish will become more and more mainstream and normal TV series producers for example try to add this ideas into their movies because they are allways open for new ideas. I realized this with my carstuckgirls website. When it started to get more and more famous in Germany, suddenly a lot of German TV Series started to add a car stuck wirth a girl into their procudtions! So they got the ideas from that website, and the same for Wetlook and other fetishes. I realized that in CSI Miami for example they are showing more and more fetish stuff... as extreme as possible.

Where would you say wetlook happens to be on the Mainstream-Fringe scale?

I would have to say that while it's not quite at the mainstream level just yet, it's getting there. I wouldn't consider it completely fringe, as there has been enough exposure of wetlook in the mainstream avenues of society (though I think it's often not as much as anyone here would like). Some of the things our talented* filmmakers, photographers and writers produce would probably be considered more towards the fringe side of society (at least from MPOV). Not that being fringe is bad - everything mainstream started out as a fringe element. When would I consider wetlook to be finally mainstream? That's an even tougher question, especially since the shift from fringe to mainstream is very gradual and difficult to measure.

I will say that here, it's considered more of an art, where in the mainstream it's more of a sidethought or circumstance, and that shift could significantly swing the stand of wetlook on the Mainstream-Fringe scale. I still haven't found that scene that looked like it was shot by Swen Goebbels, Leon Moomin, or Erik Elsas in a Hollywood blockbuster film - but then again I'm not looking hard enough either (most movies just don't interest me that much these days)...
