There is one scene from the new series I came upon recently. Not true wetlook, but she does go in pretty much up to her neck - you just don't really get to see it very well because of lighting and editing. "Martha" (Freema Agyeman) falls into an alien bog in "The Doctor's Daughter". This is supposedly some strange chemical bog with something floating on the surface, but she probably just gets water-wet.

I've documented it here:

Sorry, no actual video.

I already mentioned the Catherine Tate scene in my notes.

Corsair is correct about the Katy Manning (Jo Grant) and Nyssa scenes....but those do not register on my radar screen....cos those are only wet boots scenes and the girl never gets wet above the knees. I have only ever collected scenes where "the girl" gets wet...i.e. the entire girl must get totally wet from head to toe. That has always been my definition of wetlook. I respect that there are wet shoe and wet boots fans...but for me... that is not focusing on "the girl"...that is just focusing on one article of clothing.

I will admit to being somewhat selective these days...and I discount many scenes that do not register on the wetlook richter scale for me....i.e. rain scenes shot at night...where you can't see a darn thing, music videos where you only see 1-2 second flashes of wet scenes.

I guess I am getting to be like Sopping now....i.e. as you get older....life is too short to waste your time on minor scenes....so I discount minor scenes and only save the better scenes now.

Oh...more trivia for you, about Dr Who companions getting wet....while Katy Manning never got "fully" wet on Dr Who...she did get totally soaked in a business suit and pantyhose in the Australian comedy film "Melvin, Son of Alvin".....and Wendy Padbury (Zoe) was in several nice wet jeans scenes in the late 60's UK TV series called FREEWHEELERS. I remember one epsiode where Wendy is trapped in a cave in rising water in her jeans etc. Sadly, many of those UK "Freewheelers" episodes are now lost episodes cos the tapes were erased.

There was also a recent christmas special about a star in the sky, a few years ago, where we first got introduced to catherine tate, who became the partner last series. David Tennant floods this room with water from the River Thames and Catherine Tate gets soaked in a wedding dress. Reasonably long scene. I thought there was more wetlook recently...but I cant think of any so maybe there wasnt!!

I have to disagree. There was the Carnival of Monsters with Katy Manning. She is wearing knee-high (right at the knee) boots over jeans. She and Jon Pertwee are scooting through the salt marshes and she winds up sinking in the mud and water, still booted.  It is longish, quality wetlook. None of this where you have to imagine her getting wet as the scene cuts away.  There is one thing that I like about British TV wetlook: they don't take the shoes or boots off for the wet scenes.  There is an episode of Tomorrow People, "Worlds' Away", (out on DVD) with two of the girls in full dresses and boots getting thrown into a water-filled dungeon.  I wish the lighting was better, but it was nice, extended wetlook. And, the girls were wearing their boots the whole time.

Back to Dr. Who, there was also an episode where Nyssa slips into a creek while wearing a pantsuit and boots.   I have some more Dr Who notes on another computer and I'll post them if there is anything that MK didn't cover.

BTW, for relatively obscure wetlook (for want of any other segue),  Brooke Shields  has two good wet scenes in Brenda Starr.

Been watching it since I was a kid and saw the very first episode in 1963, and never missed an episode since.....so a quick summary of wetlook over the last 45 years and approx 700 episodes is sadly a very little amount of wetlook in all those years. Basically...from a wetlook perspective, nothing happened in any shows from 1963 to 67, and during 1967/68 season they had probably the best wetlook scenes that ever occurred, and nobody is likely to see again. That was, during the Troughton black and white era when they has one series of episodes about Sea Devils, where they turned the local villagers into lake zombies, and there was several scenes of the villagers wading in and out the lake in that series (the same concept as that recent u.s. series called INVASION). Sadly, that series is now among "the lost tapes" of the BBC that they erased, and so all I have are my memories of watching that show live.

Then from 1968 until the mid 80's....nothing at all. It was not until the Sophie Aldred ("Ace") era of the late 80,s that "Ace" came thru with 3 different wetlook scenes in different shows (1=trapped in flooding water tank, 2= in a river, and 3= diving into the lake in her 40's dress and stockings...and 2 other vampire girls were in wetlook scenes in that storyline too). If you count victorian bathing dresses as wetlook, then Bonnie Langford was in a wetlook pool scene in a victorian dress in a late 80's episode too.

And that was basically "it"....until recently...cos the show was off the air for all of the 1990's, and since it returned to the air in the new millenium, there has only been 1 wetlook scene in the first 4 seasons (with buck tooth Billie Piper getting hosed down etc)

So...my scorecard is....that "Ace" remains the champ....cos she did 3 wetlook scenes and no other companion has matched that.

There were many sexy companions over the last 45 years that would have been wonderful to see wet....i.e. Katy Manning, Elisabeth Sladen, Wendy Padbury, Lalla Ward....but none of them ever did. Jungle girls "Leela" (Louise Jameson) did get wet in the sewers in a 70's episode....but you can't really count that as wetlook cos she only wore a leather loin cloth. And you can't count the more recent Catherine Tate bride in the Thames scene as wetlook...cos it was so badly filmed and edited, you don't see no money shots at all....so I am "not bovvered" about Catherine Tate.

So...basically wetlook occurs on Dr Who....about the same frequency as Halley';s comet.

How do you think, whether there is some wetlook in the old Doctor Who series? I have just seen all the First Doctor era and have found no wetlook... Maybe it will appear later?
