It's not a new gameshow, it is actually a very old gameshow that is almost 20 years old. It was created in Japan in the late 1980's and the original show was called "Takeshi's Castle", and we saw hundreds of clips from this show in the 1990's. Mostly it was the same old scenes being repeated in 20 different countries...i.e. many countries bought the original scenes from Japan...and then they overdubbed them in German or English and replayed the same scenes again in a different language. In the USA Spike TV aired all those old scenes and dubbed the Japanese into English.

The original Japanese show ended over a decade ago, but is still seen in re-runs in many countries. In other countries they made their own version of Takeshi's Castles...e.g. in Taiwan it was re-made as "Determination Derby", and recently, as you pointed out, it was re-made again in the USA as "Wipeout"....though in a very lousy way (i.e. instead of having the contestants in fancy dress costumes as they had in Japan, the USA gave us the preverbrial boring dose of t shirts, shorts, helmets and knee pads).

But some other countries DID re-make the show with nicer costumes....and in 2007 and 2008 (and still airing today) they re-made a nice version in Mainland China. I have collected about 60 nice scene from he chinese version of Takeshi's Caste so far. I posted a couple of them to my Youtube channel...see here...

I have many more pretty good scenes from the chinese version...with the girls in jeans and dresses in the water games.

But alas...I fear the UK version is likely to be as boring and politically correct as the U.S. version....so unless you have a fetish for helmets and knee pads...I doubt it will turn you on.

The UK does not have a good track record for copying shows....remember Chris Tarrant's version of the MANN O MANN show...i.e. loads of girls went in the pool in he German and Greek versions of that gameshow...but not ONE female went in the pool in the UK version. Similarly...the UK's recent version of the HOLE IN THE WALL gameshow (based on the Japanese show "Human Tetris")....and that was equally as devoid of any wetlook (but the German version was good, cos their female hostess went in the pool in her dress...which did not happen in the U.S. version with Brooke Burns).

Overall...I think the title of the show is mispelled (for us)...and it should be called "Total Washout"...ha ha

They tried this show in the U.S. and it totally sucked on multiple levels! Hopefully, BBC will do a better job with it but if it's anything like the one here in the U.S., it will absolutely be a waste of time to watch!

This will probably turn out to be a waste of time But next saturday 3rd january at 6pm on bbc 1 is a new gameshow called Total wipeout. Twenty male and female contestants are taken from the uk to argentina to compete on a specially constructed assault course, Unfortunatly the bbc have not released any trailers of the show.
