MK, I think you got your Doctor Who numbers inverted. Right now, 108 episodes are missing. |

By MK - wamtec@comcast.net Thu 27/11/08 15:22:42 GMT That long lost scene has been discussed several times in the past. It took place on the old UK BBC lunchtime show "Pebble Mill at One", and several people have reported the same info that you have stated...so we know that the info is solid and this scene did take place on this show.
The bad news is, the BBC made the most amazingly stupid mistake in the early 90's.....because they cancelled the show and later closed down the Pebble Mill studios in Birmingham...and took a wrecking ball and tore down the entire studio complex. And guess what they did then.....they took all the old show videotapes and actually tossed them into a construction skip as garbage when they tore down the building. So....most of the original mastertapes were tossed out in the trash. The were a few "dumpster divers" who were smart enough to grab some of these old tapes from the garbage skip...and so now some of these old shows are starting to show up on Youtube....from private collectors who managed to get hold of some of these tapes...or they had their own personal recordings they made in the 1980's. Just do a search on Youtube for "Pebble Mill at One" shows...and you can find quite a few of them online now....but so far...the elusive Bo Derek pool interview has not been found yet.
It just amazes me that the BBC were so dumb....to throw out thousands of mastertapes featuring many A list celebs....and never had the foresight to think that some day in the future...people might want to see these old shows. Same goes for the 1960's Dr Who episodes (150 episodes are still lost or missing)...and so many classic series are lost forvever....e.g. the first season of "The Avengers" (when it was merely Patrick Macnee and Ian Hendry)....only 2 of the 26 episodes in season 1 have been found...and 24 episodes are lost forever.
But to be fair to morons at the BBC and ITV...who threw out or recycled so many tv mastertapes from the 1960's and 70's.....the American networks were just as dumb too....i.e. none of the Johnny Carson shows exist from the 1960's either...those tapes were all wiped too. There are numerous lost wetlook scenes from American tv shows in the 1960's where the tapes were wiped too....i.e. we know from several sources (and still photos from the show) that Mike Douglas spent an entire week shooting 5 shows in Florida in 1967...where he played a "Simon Says" game around a swimming pool....with over 50 girls going into the pool in their dresses on different days....and we have no chance to find tapes of those shows either. A friend of mine actually wrote to Mike Douglas (Mike passed away last year) and Mike Douglas was kind enough to reply and say that he only had tapes from his 70's shows...and even HE did not have copies of his shows from the 1960's....same goes for Johnny Carson.
So....Youtube is our only hope for finding lost shows....cos if the tv companies wiped or tossed out their tapes....then our only chance is that private collectors may have taped the shows or found some old masters at a car boot sale....and they may post some clips to Youtube etc.

In reply to Message (38092.1.1) There was another interview
By Anonymous - Thu 27/11/08 12:21:32 GMT Thanks for the Bo Derek interview. There was another interview conducted by a young female reporter from a UK ITV Midlands TV station. It was in the same pool. The interviewer said she envieved Bo being cool in the pool, so Bo invited her to join her in the pool to continue the interview. The girl in floral dress did as she was asked and the two women continued to talk for some minutes, whilst fullyclothed, shoulder deep in the water. Sadly, no-one seems to be able to find it. I remember it being transmitted but didn't hit the "record" button.
